Yoga teacher training

Kathleen attended a 4 ½  day intensive yoga training in Seattle June 24-27th.  The focus was on gaining insight by accessing different layers of the body beyond the physical such as breath, energetic, and wisdom body.  Kathleen explored movement patterns using the breath as a guide as well as Yoga Nidra or “yoga sleep,” a meditation in which the body is completely relaxed but you are still conscious.     “When I take time to tend to my own practice it makes me a better teacher.  I came away rejuvenated and I found new ways to explore the practice within my own body, not only through movement but also through the stillness between movements.”

Massage workshop

Janetattended a seminar in Port Townsend on June 4-5th to further her education and training in massage modalities.  She learned a technique called PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation!) whereby a muscle contracts against the therapist’s resistance which causes relaxation of the opposing muscle.  The goal of this technique is to re-educate your muscles to work the way they were designed and to increase range of motion. Another topic was shoulder release where the therapist moves the joint in ways that break up adhesions and increase mobility. Janet will teach you self-care techniques to do at home following your massage session.

Dr. Meg runs marathon!

Dr. Meg crossed the finish line of the North Olympic Discovery Marathon on June 5th with a smile on her face!  She trained consistently throughout the winter and spring months and through this experience she realized that what may at first seem unreachable may not be after all.  Congratulations,  Dr. Meg!

Travel in comfort and health

Traveling can be rough on the body. Whether you are traveling alone on business or on your way to a sunny resort with your family, long hours in a car or an airplane can leave you stressed, tired, stiff and sore. Prolonged sitting is very hard on your body.  Pressures and forces from awkward positions can lead to restricted blood flow in your lower legs and strained muscles.  Use a support cushion behind your back or neck to maintain your normal spinal curves. Remember to stretch and vary your position periodically during traveling.  These tips can really make a difference in your ability to travel in comfort and health.  (For more information, read ACA Healthy Living Fact Sheet)
